This double row self-aligning ball bearing is an open bearing with tapered bore, steel cage and normal clearance.

It is suitable for applications supporting moderate radial loads and moderate to low thrust. The bearing features a concave spherical bearing race to compensate for static angular misalignment between the shaft and housing, and is suitable for shaft deflection or mounting errors. Because this bearing type has the lowest operating friction of all rolling element bearings, it runs cold at high speeds. The bearing is made of low alloy, fully hardened chrome steel for durability and resistance to deformation under heavy loads. Bearings have a standard 1:12 taper tapered bore to compensate for shaft deflection or use a press fit on a tapered shaft.

The open design makes the bearings easier to lubricate and dissipate heat in place. The bearing has a steel cage that prevents the balls from contacting each other during use, reducing friction, vibration and noise. Ball bearings have normal radial internal clearance, making them suitable for applications where loads and speeds do not cause thermal expansion.
